Cole Hamels threw 262.3 innings in 2008 (including 35 in the postseason). Since 1980, only three other pitchers under 25 have thrown so much in one of their first three seasons in the majors. Name them.

Wow, good one. Total guess, but I'll say Gooden, Clemens, Smoltz?
ReplyDeleteNice. Got 2 of 'em. Doc in '85, Clemens in '86 but not Smoltz
ReplyDeleteHow bout Glavine then?
ReplyDeleteRight team wrong guy.
ReplyDeleteAtlanta Braves in '92
Wait, so was it Glavine? It's not Maddux.
ReplyDeleteNot Maddux, not Glavine, not Smoltz, not Tommy Hanson....yet. your long lost bro
ReplyDeleteSteve Avery? Can't remember clearly, but wasn't his windup very similar to Hamels.
ReplyDeleteSteve Avery is the 3rd
ReplyDeleteLooks like Avery only had 253.2 IP (playoffs included) in '92. I dunno.
ReplyDeleteThat guy really fell off the map quick.
Gooden pitched every other day in '85. Coke helps.
