Savery improves to 8-1 in AA

2007 1st round draft pick Joe Savery pitched 6 shutout innings in Monday mornings 5-2 win over the Harrisburg Senators. Savery improved to 8-1 on the season. Going into this season Savery had been a major dissapointment after saying that he wanted to contibute to the '08 Phillies and have a starting job by '09. Savery was 9-10 in Single A Clearwater last year and was only bumped up to Reading because he was a former 1st round pick. He seems to have put it together this year and is pitching the way the Phillies hoped when they drafted him 19th overall. He is another guy to keep an eye on.

A good article by Marcus Hayes in todays Philly Daily News.

  1. savory looks good, but he still has to do it for an extended period. If he keeps getting better along with Draybeck the Phils could have a wealth of talent to choose from in the next few years.

  2. It's nice to hear some new names coming from the farm system. All we've been hearing about for the last couple years is Carassco, and apparently he sucks.

  3. What is Savery doing differently this year to maek him so effective? Is it just experience? I think they should televise more R-Phils games in the Philly area so we can see some of these pitchers. Would anyone watch them? I remember seeing them on CN8 every once in a while.

He's a college draft pick so I would assume he is about 24 or 25 yrs old right now (probably older than Drabek. I don't want them to rush this kid along, but it would be great to see after September 1st.
