Kyle is a "top of the rotation" talent who may not be ready for the majors this year but it would not be out of the question if he come out and pitches well at Reading. Jim Salisbury of the Philadelphia Inquirer mentioned Kyle, on Sunday before his promotion, as a possible "in-house" replacement who "has some of the best pure stuff in the system and enough toughnes to be mentioned". Again, he may not be the short-term answer to the Phillies starting pitching dilemma but is worth keeping an eye on.

Drabek gets Promoted to Reading
2006, first round draft pick Kyle Drabek gets his first taste of AA ball on Thursday night against the Akron Aeros. Drabek was 4-1 in 9 starts for the Clearwater Threshers of the Florida State League before his call up. Son of 1990 Cy Young award winner Doug Drabek, Kyle tossed a 9 inning complete game shutout his last time out. He missed a big chunk of the provious 2 seasons rehabbing from "Tommy John" surgery.

I'm pumped for this kid. He seems like he's going to be the real deal.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I understand, this kid is still a year away. If he didn't have the TJ surgery it may be a different story.
ReplyDeleteHowever, he has been pretty nasty this year and if he excels in AA, he may get a Sept. 1 shot.
I'm excited about Bastardo. He has been on fire recently and even if he can give us 3-out of-5 quality starts, that will get us through a tough time and get towards the trade deadline where we can make a move.
Agreed, looking forward to see the kid throw tonight. Would love to see him stick in the majors. Tough first matchup against Peavy but I think he will do well..

ReplyDeleteDrabek is making his Reading debut tonight. Orginal starter was forced into relief last night. Kids get a free tin lunch box.
Savery is throwing tomorrow.
