Flyers at Fenway

It’s official.  The NHL announced yesterday that the Boston Bruins will host the Flyers at Fenway Park on New Year’s Day in the annual Winter Classic.  The outdoor game has been played in previous years at Buffalo’s Ralph Wilson Stadium and Chicago’s Wrigley Field.  This should be pretty cool to watch.  Much like Wrigley, Fenway is a sports cathedral, and playing against the backdrop of the Green Monster should be a thrill for the players as well as the fans.

I’m still holding out for a Flyer-Penguins game at Beaver Stadium in State College.  It’s a no-brainer to me.  Rival teams, stadium in the middle of the state, rabid fan bases.  It would be genius…and a great excuse to head up to PSU for a little tailgating.

  1. Everyone would love to see Flyers-Pens at Beaver Stadium, but now it won't happen for about 10 years.
