The Morning After

Phils 9 Cards 2: HR”s from Utley, Howard, Rollins and Ibanez gave Joe Blanton plenty of run support as the Phils cruised to their 17th win in their last 20 games.  Blanton pitched a gem, giving up 2 runs in 8 innings while striking out 6.  He has allowed two runs or less and pitched at least seven innings in five of his last six starts for Fightins. The Marlins and Braves won yesterday and the Phils lead remains at 6.5.

Roy Halladay: It was reported last night that the Blue Jays shot down the Phillies latest counter offer.  Toronto requested a package which included Kyle Drabek, J.A. Happ and outfield prospect Dominic Brown, but the Phils think that’s too much. Other prospects being tossed around in discussions are pitcher Carlos Carrasco, outfielder Michael Taylor, catcher Lou Marson and shortstop Jason DonaldTalks around Cliff Lee are said to be heating up now that Toronto doesn’t seem to want to budge on their initial demands.

Training Camp: Football season is upon us…Eagles training camp kicks off today at Lehigh.  Too bad we have to wait another two months for anything meaningful to take place.  I’m still pretty pumped.

  1. I read today in the Inky that the Phils could get Cliff Lee for a package of "second-tier" prospects led by Carlos Carrasco and Jason Donald.
Lee would be another "southpaw" but Hamels, Lee, Blanton, Happ would still be a top flight starting 4. Too many lefty starters and too many righty relievers - interesting problem...
