3 Phils among Top 30 prospects

OF Michael Taylor (20), OF Dominic Brown (24) SP Kyle Drabek (26) are among MLB.com's top 50 prospects. It is pretty incredible how the Phillies acquired Cliff Lee without giving any of these players. Tampa leads the way with 5 players among the top 50. The Texas Rangers have 4 and along with the Phillies, the O's, Marlins, Indians (in part thanks to the Phillies) and the BoSox all have 3. Except for Philly and the Sox, the rest of those teams have been pretty bad for the better part of the last 5 years or so. Carlos Carrasco and Lou Marson were on the preseason top 50 but have dropped off. Jason Knapp is #39

  1. This is a testament to the great job Ruben did with the Cliff Lee deal. The Mets have one player, number 46. I love it.

  2. I'm surprised at how high Michael Taylor is. He was under the radar before this year. He might be another bat off the bench come September. Dominic Brown was recently just moved up to Reading..

  3. That is showing signs that we are here for the long run. Pat Gillick really turned this team around and passed everything along to his prodigy and former Crispin Gardens baseball player Ruben Amaro. I can remember about 3 or 4 years ago we had the worst farm system in all of baseball. Thats a great job by the front office and staff to turn that around in such a short amount of time.

  4. It's kind of funny. I agree that the Phils have had the worst system for a lot of years but they still somehow managed to build a world series team with a core of homegrown talent that preceded Gillick. I guess they all came up at different times..Utley, Howard, Rollins, Hamels, Myers, Madsen, chris roberson...

    Which one doesn't belong?

  5. I think it was only about 1-2 years ago when we didn't have any prospects. Last year I remember that Carrasco was our only player in the Baseball AmericaTop 100 Prospects.

The crazy thing about prospects is that we can look at this list of 50 in about 5-6 years and we'll recognize MAYBE 25 of them and will all agree that MAYBE 10 have had good careers.

    Does anyone disagree?
