'Nova Wins Mayor's Cup

Kerry Kittles hit a 3-pointer over the out stretched hand of Mark Macon as time expired giving the Villanova Wildcats a 27-24 win on Thursday night at the Linc. Temple had a 10-0 lead at the half, thanks to John Chaney’s great match-up zone defense and a 75-yard scoring strike from Pepe Sanchez to Rasheed Brokenborough. A 3-pointer by Eric Eberz and a Alvin Williams to Zeffy Penn connection tied up the game at 24 late in the 4th, before Kerry Kittles clutch shot. .

Villanova, a 10-3 team last fall, entered this season ranked in the top five in 1AA, under 25th-year coach Andy Talley. Temple, coming off a 5-7 finish that gave the program its highest number of wins in 18 years, is beginning its fourth season under coach Al Golden with designs on claiming the MAC East Division championship.

  1. Poor Temple! Every time they have expectations, something like this happens.

'Nova looked really good last night in the 2nd half. Why don't they make the jump to IA? UConn did it a few years ago off of the success of their basketball (mens and womens) programs and they've turned into a pretty solid program.

They have enough money, a solid alumni backing, and a good sized football facility.

  2. Zeffy Penn had a great fro.

I don't know what's more pathetic- Temple losing to Nova or Nova storming the field after beating Temple. Philly college football!!!

Ramon Rivas and Marc Dowdell had quite a battle going on underneath. Tim Thomas fell asleep during live action.
