Happ Named Sporting News' ROY

J.A. Happ was named the Sporting News Rookie of the Year this afternoon. The Phillies’ left-hander went 12-4 with a 2.93 ERA in 35 games (23 starts) this season, striking out 119 batters in 166 innings pitched.  Happ had a hell of a year for the Fightins and is a major reason they are where they are right now.  He’s come up big all season and absolutely deserves the award.

White Sox 3B Gordon Beckam won the award for the AL.  Beckham hit .270 with 28 doubles, 14 homers and 63 RBIs in 103 games for the Sox

  1. Nice, I thi Happ deserves it. He excelled in every role he's been thrown in. Would like to see him have some postseason success though.

The "White Hanson" was pretty good in Atlanta but Happ is a good choice.

  2. The rook in Florida - Coughlin (sp?) - was really good too. I think Happ should get the edge based on his success throughout the entire season (as a starter and reliever).

I somehow got DW back after almost an entire day without it...It was a rough day!
