Speights Out 6-8

Sixers backup center Marreese Speights, one of their most consistent players this season, had to leave Saturday night’s game against the Bulls with a partial MCL tear and will be out about 6 to 8 weeks.

Speights is averaging 13 points and 6.4 rebounds in 23.4 minutes of play on the season, and has been one of the few bright spots on this mediocre Sixers squad. He was injured in the fourth quarter of the Bulls game in what appeared to be a routine play. His left leg bent awkwardly as he turned his body to adjust to the ball on defense and immediately went down and grasped his knee. This is a shame for Speights, hopefully he can come back in 2010 and continue to impress.

  1. That really hurts. He was really hitting his stride.

I remember hearing scouts compare his potential to Amare Stoudamire (sp?) last season and at the time I thought there was no chance. Althought I still think that comparison is a stretch, he definitely can be a star in this league.

This injury may be able to get Brand some significant minutes to get him out of his year-long funk he's been in.

It's so hard to get excited about this team because best-case scenario they're a 6-seed that gets dominated in the first round.
