Big Red Extended

Andy Reid received a contract extension from the Eagles this afternoon that will keep him coaching in Philly through 2013. Talks of this extension have been circulating for a while now, but now that it’s official I’m wondering how Eagles fans and DW readers will react.

Personally, I’m torn. On one hand, Andy has brought unprecedented success to the franchise during his time here, with playoff appearances having become a regular occurrence. The team has been near or at the top of the division nearly every year, and at times I feel like we are taking the coach for granted. On the other hand, however, he has consistently made the same mistakes and has never been able to bring the elusive Super Bowl title home. His inability to see the error in his ways (clock management, not running the ball, etc) can drive a fan crazy, but do his positive attributes outweigh these shortcomings? I want to say yes, but I don’t know if that would be the truth. I want the team to win, obviously, but I just don’t see Andy getting it done if he can’t change his ways. Hopefully I’m wrong - only time will tell.

  1. Donovan isn't going anywhere either. Any details on the contract?

  2. Every time I watch an Eagles game I rip Andy and want him fired. But then I always look at the big picture and end up sticking up for him. The things that bother me are his clock management and his unwillingness (is that a word? it is now) to adjust.

Part of me thinks the Eagles need someone else to get them over the top like a Shanahan to Denver's Dan Reeves. Other part says that they have a chance every year, and the players have to be the ones to get 'em over the top.

I don't know, I would have waited until after the season to make a decision.

So yeah..Torn is probably a good word.

  3. Mike, the part of you that thinks the Eagles need someone else to get them over the top is right.
4 more years of frustration to look forward to...
