The Morning After

Phils 5 Pirates 2: The Phils capped off a 9-1 home stand with a 5-2 victory Sunday afternoon against the Buccos. Pedro Feliz led the way with a 1st inning grand slam and J.A. Happ kept the Pirates in check, giving up one run in seven innings pitched. Happ improved his record to 6-0 and dropped his ERA to 2.90. The Phils are 4 games up on the Marlins going into the All-Star break. Good stuff. .

NL East Wrapup: Marlins won 8-1 (4 GB), Braves lost 8-7 (6 GB), Mets won 9-7 (6.5 GB), Nats Lost 5-0 (22.5 GB). They’re all losers in my book.

Manny Acta: As reported by Dirty Wudders weeks ago, Manny Acta will be fired as manager of the Washington Nationals – according to Manny Acta. Acta told ESPNdeportes.com on Sunday that he’d been canned. The Nationals head into the All-Star break with the worst record in the majors at 26-61. No replacement has been named. Just fold the damn team already.

Arturro Gatti: Brazilian police have formally accused Arturro Gatti’s 23-year-old wife in connection with his murder last week. The former junior welterweight champion was strangled with the strap of a purse while on vacation at a resort in Brazil. Police say the wife could not explain how she spent nearly 10 hours inside the residence where they were staying without noticing that Gatti was already dead. Bitch.
