The Morning After

Ten in a row!!!!

Phils 4 Cubs 1: Jayson Werth blasted a walk-off 3-run HR in the 13th to secure the Phils 10th straight victory, their longest streak since 1991.  The 4-1 score doesn’t really do the game justice, though. This game was all about pitching.  The starters for both teams were great last night, Harden’s line was 7 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, Blanton’s was 7 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K – what a game.   The relievers were great too, holding both teams scoreless until Werth’s HR in the 13th off of Jeff Samardzija.  Chan Ho was the man in the late innings, 3 IP 0 ER 0 H 5 K – perfection.  The Phils have a day game this afternoon, Jamie Moyer takes the mound. Go Phils!

Rangers 4 Red Sox 2: Texas’ Tommy Hunter allowed one run and four hits over six innings to beat Josh Beckett, who still threw his third complete game in six starts, in the Rangers’ 4-2 win.  Boston has now lost four straight, their longest losing streak since last July, and have only scored eight runs in that stretch.  The Yankees beat Baltimore 4-2 last night and are now all alone atop the AL East, a spot the Sox have held since June 9.

Halladay Sweepstakes: From SI.com: The Toronto Blue Jays say any trade for ace Roy Halladay needs to be completed by July 28.  General manager J.P. Ricciardi said Tuesday the deadline is necessary to get all agreements in place for what would be a complicated deal. The GM also wants this matter resolved before Halladay makes a scheduled start July 29 in Seattle.
