Halladay to the Phils, Lee to Seattle * updated

Wow! Si.com's Jon Heyman is reporting that the Phillies are in agreement on a three-team trade with the Mariners and Blue Jays to acquire star pitcher Roy Halladay. Halladay has to agree to a contract extension to complete the deal but that is apparently a formality.

The deal is rumored to have Lee going to the M's for prospects who would go to Toronto. The prospects have not been confirmed. No word if Happ or Hamels were involved.

I am going to hold judgement until I hear who all is involved but Wow! that is a blockbuster.

Cliff Lee's second half and playoff performance will never be forgotten in Philadelphia.

* UPDATE: Now Heyman is backing off! "sorry, quick trigger finger. Mariners definitely the third team. checking now with cliff lee is the pltcher they get." Some people are saying maybe it's Cole Hamels

**Update: The source said Phillipe Aumont — a Canadian right-hander — is among the players headed from Seattle to Toronto in the deal; the source added the Philadelphia is expected to send one of its outfield prospects, possibly Michael Taylor, to the Blue Jays. (foxsports)

  2. Mitch Williams was on MLB Network on the Hot Stove saying that the Phils are keeping all of their prospects. Lee is going to Seattle, Halladay to Philly, and the prospects we get for Lee right to Toronto. Basically the Phils are trading a rental for the best pitcher in baseball.

If anyone doesn't renew their tickets in section 202 this year, then you better have a pretty damn good reason!

  3. Really? That would be nice..

    This is from Stark:

According to a source who spoke with two teams involved in the trade, Toronto would get highly regarded Mariners pitching prospect Phillippe Aumont, Phillies catching prospect Travis d'Arnaud and another Phillies prospect in exchange for Halladay. Indications are that the Phillies have balked at Toronto's repeated requests for outfielder Domonic Brown, and the Phillies are offering highly touted outfielder Michael Taylor instead

  4. D'Arnaud and Taylor are # 3 and #4 in the Phils system.

    1. Domonic Brown, of
    2. Kyle Drabek, rhp
    3. Michael Taylor, of
    4. Travis D'Arnaud, c
    5. Trevor May, rhp

  5. Yea it looks like D'Arnaud is part of the deal, and Savery was mentioned in there as well. The Phils and Halladay are looking in the 3 year $60 million range for the extension.

  6. After digesting this potential deal it really makes a LOT of sense.

However, to me it all depends on who we give up along with Lee.

In a way, and I think we all are, I'm a bit upset they couldn't pull off the Halladay, Lee, Hamels lineup for just one year.

That's a once in a lifetime/franchise opportunity. Could that be the best 1-2-3 EVER?

The first trio that comes to mind is Maddux, Glavine, and Smoltz.

  9. I'm so confused...

I know we just got (or almost got) one of the best pitchers in baseball, but the timing of this doesn't really make sense. Amaro looked like a genius in August when he made the Lee deal. Now, it looks like we're getting ripped off (because if we just made this trade then, we would have saved a ton of prospects).

    Am I missing something here?

It's going to be fun to watch Halladay next year but did our system (majors and farm) get better or worse because of this trade?
